E4 will be submitting a Phase I small business grant proposal for the April 5, 2010 deadline to the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) to develop and test an online educational platform for nursing ethics continuing education. This project, whose product will be called the Nursing Ethics Knowledge Base TM or NEKB TM, will combine the following E4 technologies: - Realistic, interactive, text-based ethics scenarios with an immersive and user-directed learning format where learners select from several choices, each of which branches into different scenes and outcomes;
- Brief, voice-over, slide-based didactic video podcast presentation of key ethical concepts and research findings on the topic;
- Web 2.0 interactive web pages (called a wiki), which allows users to interact and engage in informal peer-to-peer learning and reflection about the topic, will be used to host all of the above learning activities.
An early alpha concept of the platform can be found here. To request additional details, including a concept paper for the project, please contact David Perlman at dperlman002@yahoo.com.

Dr. Perlman has been invited to present findings of some of his grant-funded projects from his work at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing on educational innovation and technology at the Drexel University Nursing Education Institute in June, 2010. Since the data are cited in E4 grant proposals, we wanted to make the actual presentation and data available. Please click here to be directed to a preview of the presentation Dr. Perlman will be making on Dr. Perlman's Dropbox public file server (the PowerPoint will automatically download, as the file is too large to attach on this website). For background about these projects, please click here and here. |

E4 is proud to announce the availability of Dr. Perlman's first novella for purchase. This novella, "The Organ Farm," describes one possible future for bioethics and the confluence of medical transplant tourism, health care reform gone awry, and the growing number of patients in persistent vegetative state.
